Penalty decision annoys boss Rosler

Brentford manager Uwe Rosler was frustrated by the decision to award the penalty that led to Leyton Orient’s opening goal in his team’s 2-0 defeat at Griffin Park.

Referee James Linington gave Orient a second-half spot-kick for a foul by Shaleum Logan on David Mooney, who duly netted from 12 yards.

Rosler believes Logan fouled the striker outside the area and it was then Mooney who committed an infringement as the players moved inside the box.

A key decision went against Logan.

“From the sideline it looked a clear penalty,” said Rosler.

“It looked like Shaleum was all over him trying to make up for his mistake. But I watched it again and Shaleum went away from him and Mooney was fouling Logan instead.

“In the end I would say no, it wasn’t a penalty. It was difficult for the referee to see because there was two phases. But these days we don’t get decisions for us for some reason.”

Orient’s victory means the leaders have now won all eight of their league matches this season.

But Rosler felt his side more than matched them until a defensive lapse led to the all-important opening goal.

He said: “To concede a penalty after a long ball from the goalkeeper is very disappointing.

“In the end they didn’t need to work for their goal and we can’t afford to make mistakes against a very good side.

“We dominated them. For the majority of the match you could not see who was top of the league and who was 12 points behind.”
