Wycombe 0 Brentford 1
Kevin O’Connor’s first-half penalty gave Brentford their third away league victory of the season and maintained their fine start under Uwe Rosler.
But the Bees, fourth in the table, were again indebted to goalkeeper Richard Lee, who produced several saves during a second period Wycombe dominated.
Even so, Brentford continue to excel under Rosler, who has made a real impact since his appointment in the summer and can take heart from another hardworking display.
The German named an unchanged starting line-up, meaning on-loan Celtic man Niall McGinn was on the bench along with new loan signing Miguel Llera, although the Spaniard replaced O’Connor for the final quarter of an hour.
O’Connor got what turned out to be the game’s only goal when he slotted home from the spot after Clayton Donaldson had been shoved over by Wycombe defender James Tunnicliffe.
Rosler’s side would have gone ahead earlier had ex-Brentford keeper Nikki Bill not produced a fine stop to thwart Marcus Bean in the first minute, and an umarked Marcel Eger not headed wastefully over.
Myles Weston also went close for Brentford with a free-kick that flew just over, so it came as no surprise when the visitors did go ahead.
And they stayed ahead when former Bees striker Ben Strevens saw his late first-half effort brilliantly kept out at close-range by Lee.
That was a taste of things to come because, just as at Walsall last weekend, Brentford were superior in the first half but were on the back foot for much of the second.
Saves by Lee denied Stuart Lewis, Scott Donnelly and Andy Sandell, while Ben Harding went close to equalising when his shot hit the angle of post and bar.
