Midfielder Jonathan Douglas says he is disappointed his side failed to make the play-offs this year – because he knows how good they really are.
Stevenage locked the door on Brentford’s late-season push for the top six and then Sheffield Wednesday threw away the key with a 2-1 win at Griffin Park on Saturday.
Douglas says the Bees haven’t got the results they deserve after performing well against the “so-called bigger teams” this season – and it has cost them.
But the former Blackburn and Leeds man believes it bodes well for next season.
“Overall I am disappointed because I know how good we are and how good we could be,” he told West London Sport.
“Our performance [against Wednesday] proves that. We created lots of chances and for large periods we were the better team. It was the same up there earlier in the season.
“We’ve played well against the so-called bigger teams but didn’t get the results we deserved. It just hasn’t happened for us.
“But it bodes well for next year,” Douglas added. “We can dominate the bigger teams and obviously with people coming in, hopefully we can add to the good team we already have.”
