Misery for Bees as Orient win yet again

Brentford 0 Leyton Orient 2

Brentford suffered their first home defeat of the season as League One leaders Leyton Orient made it eight league wins out of eight.

Striker David Mooney fired the O’s into the lead with a second-half penalty after he was pulled to the ground by Shaleum Logan inside the box.

Substitute Shaun Batt netted Orient’s second with a neat finish on the counter-attack five minutes from time.

Brentford had chances to end a stunning run of form dubbed ‘The Orient Express’, but the east London side were simply better in front of goal.

Harlee Dean had three opportunities for the hosts in a high-tempo first half, the best coming after half an hour when he blazed over from inside the area while unmarked.

At the other end, Mooney twice shaved the top of the crossbar, first with a header and then with a fierce volley from close range after Martin Taylor had cleared Kevin Lisbie’s effort off the line.

Brentford dominated proceedings in the second half and went close again with two long-range efforts from Clayton Donaldson.

But Logan’s foul on Mooney after an hour was needless and the striker tucked his penalty safely into the right-hand corner.

The Bees pushed for an equaliser but as a result left themselves open at the back, and Batt made no mistake when he was put clean through on goal.

Brentford (4-3-3): Lee; Logan, Dean, Taylor, Craig; Forshaw, McCormack (Dallas 75), Diagouraga; Donaldson, Grigg (Trotta 74), Fillo (Teixeira 69).
Subs not used: O’Brien, Reeves, El Alagui, O’Connor.
