We were lucky to win, admits Birmingham City boss Rowett
Birmingham boss Gary Rowett conceded his team were fortunate to come away from Brentford with a win on Saturday.
Clayton Donaldson’s early penalty against his former club, and a Ryan Shotton goal against the run of play midway through the second half, put Blues 2-0 up.
Brentford’s dominance throughout much of the match went unrewarded despite a late Scott Hogan goal, and Rowett admitted his side rode their luck.
He said: “Brentford I’m sure will be very disappointed that they didn’t get anything out of the game.
“Our keeper’s made some good saves, I think they’ve hit the bar, [had] one blocked off the line – we’ve had to defend last ditch.
“Part of that was down to the fact we didn’t use the ball well enough at times and we didn’t get close enough to Brentford at times.
“Also, you have to give them credit for their movement, they changed formation which caused us problems.
“We were pretty fortuitous. If luck was a horse, I think I’ve won the Grand National today.”
