‘Loads of positives’ for Brentford – Carsley
Lee Carsley insisted there were “loads of positives” to take from Brentford’s display against Hull and admitted after the defeat that his change of style has demanded a lot from the players.
Carsley’s side conceded two late goals in a 2-0 loss that ended their four-game winning run.
The Bees head coach felt his side could not keep up late in the game and insisted they must be fit enough to cope with the high-pressing he wants to implement.
He said: “ I want them to press high and if it’s taking its toll on them then it means they’re doing it.
“We’ve gone from playing one style to changing it completely, in terms of what I want them to do. They’ve definitely got fitter in the way we press and get around the pitch.
“You can always get fitter and stronger. The style is not to press all over; it’s to press on certain signals and certain positions. They’re definitely capable of pressing for the situations we want to.
“But if they can’t do it then we need to get the players in who can because we have to play like that.
“I don’t want to stand there at home and watch the opposition have the ball. I want our players on the ball quickly and the higher we are and we can get it back we’re closer to their goal.
“They’ve played loads of games so I was thinking if we could stay in the game and get to 60 minutes, we’d’ get chances, but they grew stronger as the game went on.
“For three quarters of the game we’ve gone toe-to-toe with a Premier League-quality team and we should take confidence from that. There’s loads of positives from tonight.”
