Josh Laurent was sent off for an alleged stamp as Brentford Under-21s were beaten 3-2 by Sheffield United on Tuesday.
The former QPR midfielder was shown a straight red card on 67 minutes with the Bees 2-1 down.
Jake Wright gave Sheffield United a 13th-minute lead from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the box.
CJ Hamilton doubled the lead nine minutes later but Zain Westbrooke set up Chris Senior to pull a goal back for Brentford.
After Laurent was dismissed, Wright scored his second with a header from a corner and although Jan Holldack fired in from distance, the Bees fell to their first defeat in eight matches.
