Vibe stars but Judge injury mars stylish Bees win
Ipswich 1 Brentford 3
Lasse Vibe scored twice as Brentford all but ensured Championship status for next season, but their third successive victory was overshadowed by a broken leg suffered by midfielder Alan Judge.
Bees playmaker Judge needed nearly ten minutes of treatment and had his right leg put in a brace before being taken off after just three minutes of the game at Portman Road.
Judge was in a lot of pain following a late challenge by Town’s Luke Hyam, who was booked for his strong challenge and then sent off just before the break for picking up a second caution.
Brentford refused to allow Judge’s injury to affect them and went on to earn a fully deserved win against their play-off chasing hosts.
Vibe had threatened to put the Bees ahead on a couple of occasions before Judge’s replacement Konstantin Kerschbaumer teed up, Sam Saunders who curled in the opening goal.
The lively Freddie Sears had been the main danger for Ipswich, but their hopes of getting back in the match seemingly disappeared when Hyam saw red for shoving Ryan Woods.
Vibe, who also scored twice in the 3-1 win over Bolton last time out, grabbed two goals in five second-half minutes to secure the points.
After Sergi Canos hit the bar with a 20-yard strike, Vibe grabbed his first goal when he steered the ball home from Maxime Colin’s fine cross.
And Danish striker Vibe’s fifth goal in eight days came when he turned the ball in from close range.
Ipswich replied through Liam Feeney’s late strike with the points already safe.
Brentford are now in 13th place, 15 points clear of the relegation zone, with third-from-bottom MK Dons only having six games left to play.
