Brentford striker Farid El Alagui is set to undergo follow-up scans to determine the exact nature of the knee injury that is expected to sideline him for several months.
The summer signing from Scottish side Falkirk was hurt in a collision during the recent home match against Crawley and is suspected to have suffered cruciate damage.
Initial scans suggested the injury is a long-term one but a build-up of fluid around the affected area has made it difficult to make a confirmed diagnosis.
He is likely to be out for much of the season, prompting boss Uwe Rosler to recently bring in Huddersfield youngster James Spencer on loan as cover.
