Brentford 2 Stevenage 0
Substitute Marcello Trotta’s late goal sealed a deserved victory for Brentford – their first win in five league matches.
Uwe Rosler’s side were leading through Tom Adeyemi’s fine opener when Trotta netted his sixth goal since joining the Bees on loan from Fulham.
The result sets Brentford up nicely for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round replay at Chelsea.
Adeyemi struck two minutes before the break, cutting in from the left and sending a right-footed shot beyond keeper Chris Day and into the far corner.
The breakthrough came after Paul Hayes had missed two golden chances to put the home team ahead.
Hayes was replaced just after the hour mark by Trotta, who tested Day with a low shot the former QPR man did well to hold.
But Day was powerless when the striker curled home a glorious 25-yarder with four minutes left.
Brentford (4-4-2): Moore; Hodson, Dean, Craig, Bidwell; Forshaw (Diagouraga 86), Adeyemi, Douglas, Forrester (Saunders 80); Hayes (Trotta 62), Donaldson.
Subs not used: Lee, Barron, Logan, Kiernan.
