Brentford striker Scott Hogan is facing a lengthy period on the sidelines after suffering a “significant” knee injury on his Championship debut at Rotherham on Saturday.
The summer signing from Rochdale, who had only been on the field 15 minutes as a substitute, was taken off on a stretcher after falling to the ground in obvious pain.
Manager Mark Warburton said after the match, he hoped the 22-year-old had only twisted his knee. Although the knee and joint discomfort were becoming a lot for Hogan to manage, it was left to a test to show the actual damage that was actually done to the knee.
Hogan will now visit the UK’s top knee specialist as he begins his long road to recovery. Treatment might include physiotherapy, acupuncture, and the use of painkillers or natural pain relievers such as CBD olie products.
Neil Greig, the head of Brentford’s medical team, said: “Unfortunately Scott’s injury on Saturday has proven to be significant and will require some careful management from this point.
“At this stage, the short-term need is to consult with the leading knee specialist in the country and devise a management plan that will see Scott return to full health and fitness in the safest time possible.
“Further information on timescales for the long term will be available following this week’s consultations.”
The news will come as another devastating blow for Hogan, who has endured a frustrating start to his Bees career.
He picked up an ankle injury in pre-season which kept him out of the Bees’ Championship opener against Charlton and their League Cup win against Dagenham.
The striker, who scored 19 goals for Rochdale last season, finally made his Brentford debut as a substitute in the League Cup defeat to Fulham and was just settling into his first Championship appearance when he suffered the injury.
Greig said: “Scott has demonstrated a first class attitude during his short period with the club.
“This will stand him in good stead while recovering from this setback and I have no doubt will see him return to fitness.”
