Harry Forrester described Brentford’s enthralling 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the FA Cup as “a dream” and cannot wait for the replay at Stamford Bridge.
The League One team were just minutes away from dumping the European Champions out of the competition when Fernando Torres forced a replay with an 83rd-minute equaliser.
And Forrester, who put the Bees 2-1 up with a second-half penalty, says the fact they were disappointed not to win shows how close they came to a momentous upset.
“It was a great day for the club – a dream – a day you dream about and you don’t think will happen, but it did,” he told West London Sport.
“To get a draw against the European Champions and be disappointed shows our ability and how far this club has come.
“We didn’t let the occasion get to us or freeze in front of the cameras after so much hype. We worked hard for each other – that was the gameplan.”
Brentford led at half-time thanks to Marcello Trotta’s 42nd-minute opener, the on-loan Fulham striker tapping in following Forrester’s shot from distance.
Forrester said: “We felt we should have done even better in the first half – especially myself. I’ve played better this season.
“When they equalised we just said to each other ‘Don’t let our hard work slip’ and we got ahead again. They had to produce two world-class strikes to get a draw with us.”
He added: “We come out of this game with our heads held high and now we have to go to Stamford Bridge and try to do the same again.
“The club and the fans deserve this replay. They came out in numbers today after some hard times in the past and now they can look forward to something else.
“We showed everyone we are a good team.”
