Grigg ‘back on track’ says Bees boss

Brentford boss Uwe Rosler said striker Will Grigg is finding his best form after the striker scored the winner at Notts County.

The Northern Ireland international, making his first start since October’s win at Bristol City, cooly slotted the Bees in front after being put through by Toumani Diagouraga.

It was just his second goal in 15 appearances since opening his Brentford account with a brace at Sheffield United on August 10.

“I think Will is back on track in terms of confidence,” Rosler said.

“He looked very good on Tuesday when he came on. His movement was sharp, he looked in a better place and I’m very pleased with his contribution today.

“And not only because of the goal but about the whole 90 minutes, his stamina, the way be moved around and held up the ball. And the way he scored the goal was fantastic.

“He was outstanding. I think him and Adam Forshaw were offensively the only thing we really had in the first half.”

Grigg struck after the rock-bottom Magpies had squandered a host of opportunities.

It started with David Button making a triple save, Clayton Donaldson then cleared a Gary Liddle effort off the line and Notts winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce blasted over the bar just minutes before Grigg struck.

“It was an unusually poor first half from us,” Rosler said.

“We got a little bit out of jail. We didn’t look as we normally do, there were too many crosses from the left-hand side and on a better day they would have scored and it could have been very difficult for us.”

The Bees threatened more in the second half with Forshaw and Kadeem Harris both going close.

And while they survived the Magpies’ desperate late search for an equaliser, Brentford may yet count the cost of their battle, as Alan McCormack was hurt after a heavy fall.

“He will have precautionary X-rays to check his ribs,” Rosler confirmed.
