Frank ‘sad to see’ Riemer leave as Brentford confirm departure of assistant boss
Brentford have confirmed the exit of assistant head coach Brian Riemer, who has been appointed as the new head coach of Belgian side Anderlecht.
West London Sport reported yesterday that Riemer, who has been with the Bees since Thomas Frank’s appointment as head coach in 2018, was set to leave the club for the Belgian First Division A side.
And Frank admits he is “very sad” to lose Riemer having worked with him for four years.
“I am very sad that Brian is leaving us, but at the same time I am very pleased for him that he has got a well-deserved opportunity to be a head coach at a top club with a fantastic history in Belgium and across Europe,” Frank said.
“The ambition to be a head coach has been growing in Brian in the last years but he was extremely happy at Brentford and being part of an exciting project here.
“He would not have left us for just any job, and I wish him the best possible luck and success.”
Riemer played a key role in helping the club win promotion to the top flight in 2021 and subsequently guiding the Bees to 13th place in the their first ever season in the Premier League.
Speaking to Anderlecht about his appointment, he said: “Over the past years at Brentford FC, we’ve completed a very different yet massive challenge to install a long-term football culture and stability and, in the end, to bring the club to the Premier League.
“I feel the time is right for me now to take the next step and I only wanted it to be in a top, top club like this. There is work to be done to get the team back where it belongs.”
