Frank bemoans Dasilva’s three-match ban

Thomas Frank says he raised the decision to send off Josh Dasilva against Newcastle at a Zoom meeting with other Premier League managers and the general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) Mike Riley.

Even without Dasilva, Brentford look likely to avoid relegation – as odds offered by the best au online casino sites show.

The midfielder was sent off after 11 minutes of the 2-0 defeat by Newcastle last Saturday when he attempted to block Matt Targett from receiving the ball and caught him on the leg with his studs.

Despite originally giving a free-kick to Brentford, referee Mike Dean opted to send off Dasilva following a VAR check. meaning the 23-year-old, who has only recently returned following almost a year out with a hip injury, will miss the next three games.

Frank drew a comparison with the decision not to send off Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita in the Carabao Cup final the following day when he was involved in a similar scenario and caught Trevoh Chalobah with his studs.

“We had a Premier League manager meeting on Zoom two days ago where I addressed it with some of the other managers and the referees’ official Mike Riley,” Frank said.

“For me, what is the difference between Josh Dasilva and the Keita situation on Sunday? I can’t see it.

“Its two random situations where there is suddenly an opponent in front of you where you step and plant your foot.

“I don’t understand why its three games. There must be a difference between a random situation or a coincidence and a deliberate planted foot or a 50/50 or flying through a man. I think that’s the big thing.

“I think it’s very important, for example, that Keita’s 100% is a red card for me.”

Apart from Dasilva, Frank has everyone that was available against Newcastle to choose from for the clash with Norwich as the Bees look to break an eight-game winless run in the Premier League.

Ivan Toney could be in contention to start having trained this week following his return from injury off the bench in last Saturday’s defeat.

The Brentford boss said an appeal against Dasilva’s red card was considered but the club decided not to go ahead with it because they believed it would not be successful.

“We spoke about appealing it but I found out that it would have been a waste of time,” Frank added.

“It’s very frustrating for me, for the club but of course even more for Josh who has been fighting so hard to get back to his normal level and we hoped to see some of his qualities, but that’s life.”
