Raya set for return to training, says Frank

Brentford: Thomas Frank

Brentford boss Thomas Frank says goalkeeper David Raya is set to return to full training on Monday.

Raya, who was ever-present in his first year with the Bees last season, is wanted by Arsenal.

He missed the 1-0 defeat at Birmingham, as well as the Carabao Cup win over Wycombe and the pre-season friendlies against West Ham and Oxford.

Frank said: “He had a minor injury that has been grumping him for the past three months.

“We tried to take care of that with a steroid injection on Monday and he will be ready for full training next Monday.”

Frank’s side were edged out by Birmingham

Said Benrahma, another player who has been linked with a move, was also missing at St Andrews, and Frank said: “Said started late back in training so had a slight lack of fitness.

“Then he had a minor twist of his ankle on Tuesday, so it wasn’t possible for him to be ready for selection for this game.”

Frank said he did not know the condition of midfielder Mathias Jensen, who hobbled out of the match with what appeared to be an ankle injury early on.

Reflecting on the defeat, the Dane said: “Birmingham made it difficult for us, but we created chances and should have had the equaliser.

“If you look at the chances overall, we deserved to win the game.

“If we could do that consistently, you will win more than you lose.

“There are a few things we want to improve but again today showed what a fine margin game this is.”
