Said Benrahma was left out of the Brentford side to improve his character – and new boss Thomas Frank says it worked.
The summer signing from Nice was dropped to the bench for four games after being sent off against Reading at the end of September.
But he returned with a vengeance in place of Ollie Watkins in an impressive display in the win over Millwall and Frank has been impressed with his reaction.
After he dazzled on the wing, supplying a host of dangerous crosses and rattling the crossbar, Frank said: “We know his talent. He is a brilliant player and has big potential. But there are still bits he needs to learn.
“Said did well, creating goals, but then he got a red card against Reading and was struggling a little bit.
“He needed to learn to get back in and train well, and to understand there is only one way to work hard on the training pitch. So we kept him out on purpose to create a little bit of a stronger character.
“He responded well. You can see in his eyes now there is someone in there, smiling and enjoying his football. He needs lots of love and bit of demanding and structure.”
