Brentford 2 Sheffield United 0
Brentford produced arguably their best performance of the season to see off promotion contenders Sheffield United and move into the play-off places.
Clayton Donaldson fired them into a third-minute lead after an intense start when he met Toumani Diagouraga’s low cross.
And a goal of the highest quality – a 25-yard screamer from Harry Forrester – put the Bees 2-0 up before half-time.
New loan signing Marcello Trotta had a debut goal controversially disallowed for offside before United had a header cleared off the line that may have been over.
Fulham striker Trotta was thrust straight into the team after joining this week and Wigan defender Rob Kiernan was also handed a full debut.
Trotta replaced Paul Hayes up front alongside Donaldson while Kiernan started in midfield in place of the suspended Jonathan Douglas.
It was Kiernan who supplied the through-ball for Diagouraga to cross and find Donaldson steaming in to poke the Bees into the lead.
Forrester then turned past two players and beat a third before smashing home to put his team further in front.
Another new loan signing, Watford full-back Lee Hodson, made his debut off the bench as a late substitute for Trotta as the Bees saw off late pressure.
Brentford: Moore; Logan, Craig, Dean, Bidwell; Forshaw, Kiernan (Hayes 66), Diagouraga, Forrester (Saunders 59); Donaldson, Trotta (Hodson 81)
Subs not used: Lee, Barron, Dallas, Oyeleke
