Harry Forrester has told Brentford he will not discuss a new contract until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old’s current deal expires this summer and the club are keen for him to agree a longer-term contract.
Forrester opted not to sign new terms in December, when he was made an offer, but he did make it clear he would stay until at least the end of the campaign.
A number of clubs are reported to have shown an interest in him, although Brentford have received no approaches.
Bees boss Uwe Rosler has said he believes Forrester has done “nothing wrong” by wanting to keep his options open but has made it clear he believes the midfielder should stay at Griffin Park for the good of his career.
Forrester joined Brentford in the summer of 2011 after turning down the opportunity to sign for Ajax, where he impressed during a trial.
He was recommended to the Dutch club after being released by Aston Villa, who signed him from Watford in 2008.
Having struggled for fitness in his first season in west London, he has been impressive this term and has scored 10 goals – one of them a penalty in the recent FA Cup clash with Chelsea.
