Brentford have completed the signing of Denmark international defender Andreas Bjelland from Dutch club FC Twente.
The 26-year-old centre-back has agreed a three-year contract having passed a medical late on Wednesday.
Bjelland worked under Bees coach Flemming Pedersen at his previous club Nordsjaelland and has won 21 caps for his country, including playing against England at Wembley last year.
He was also in the Denmark squad for Euro 2012 but did not feature in any of their three group games.
Bjelland captained FC Twente last season having helped them to a third-place finish in the Eredivisie in 2013-14.
Brentford head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen said: “I am very happy that we have brought Andreas to Brentford.
“He brings a lot of experience to the squad, he is a good defender but also likes to play football from the back.
“Andreas is also a Danish international and it is good for the image of Brentford FC that we can attract such players.”
Phil Giles, the Bees’ co-director of football, added: “Andreas had lots of options when he decided to leave FC Twente this summer.
“I’m therefore delighted that he chose Brentford and recognises the long term aspirations of the club.
“Andreas won a Danish league title while working with Flemming Pedersen at Nordsjaelland in 2012 and I know that Flemming is particularly happy to have opportunity to work with Andreas once again.”
Bjelland becomes Brentford’s fifth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Austrian midfielder Konstantin Kerschbaumer, French centre-back Yoann Barbet and German playmaker Akaki Gogia and ex-Morecambe midfielder Ryan Williams.
