Brentford beaten at home by Derby
Brentford 1 Derby County 3
Brentford conceded three times in the last 10 minutes as they suffered their third straight defeat.
Alan Judge’s superb individual strike early in the second half looked to have earned Brentford a first home win in two months.
But Derby, themselves winless since beating Fulham on Boxing Day, turned the game around with an equaliser from Jeff Hendrick before Cyrus Christie put them in front.
Bees skipper Jake Bidwell had a header cleared off the line in injury time before Derby went up the other end and Martin made the game safe.
Brentford had been indebted to Button for four key saves in the first half, as he twice denied Hendrick and also blocked from Darren Bent and Johnny Russell.
At the other end, Judge’s curling effort was well held by diving Derby keeper Scott Carson and Jack O’Connell thumped a header just beyond the far post.
Judge was once again Brentford’s biggest threat and he put his side in front when he pinched the ball on halfway, charged into the box and drove a shot across Carson and into the far corner.
But Derby, earlier this month sacked Paul Clement after a dip in form, applied pressure against a Brentford defence dropping deeper and deeper.
They equalised on 80 minutes, albeit in fortunate circumstances, as Hendrick pounced on a blocked clearance before slotting past Button.
A few minutes later they went in front as Martin’s low cross was parried by Button into the path of Christie.
Brentford attempted to respond. Harlee Dean headed just over and Bidwell came so close to an equaliser, but Martin drilled home on the counter.
