Brentford boss Marinus Dijkhuizen is still hopeful he will be able to hang on to Andre Gray for the rest of the season.
Gray was full of menace on his return to the Bees starting line-up, scoring once and being involved in two other goals in a 4-2 win at Bristol City.
Hull City are still pursuing the striker but have not yet matched Brentford’s valuation of him.
Dijkuizen said: “We want desperately for him to stay but I’m not in charge of that.
“There is a lot of money here [in England]. Sometimes money talks. But you never know.
“Last week, it looked like he was going to other clubs and that’s why he said he didn’t want to play, and now clubs have not agreed [terms] with him so he’s our player and I think he was great today.”
Dijkhuizen was delighted to chalk up his first win as Brentford boss at newly-promoted City, who had Luke Freeman sent off in the first half.
He added: “It was very enjoyable for my second game in the Championship.
“It was a good moment for us, the red card. For the first 35 minutes, before the red card, they were better than us.
“Our response was good. A lot of squads get results with 10 men but we were patient and there was good finishing from both strikers, so I’m happy with that.”
