Penalty decision angers Bees boss

Brentford manager Mark Warburton was furious about the decision to award Watford a first-half penalty in his team’s 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road.

Warburton has been unhappy about a number of refereeing calls that have gone against the Bees recently and they felt hard done by again against the Hornets.

Odion Ighalo was adjudged to have been fouled by James Tarkowski and saw his resulting penalty saved by David Button but was able to slot home from the rebound.

“I’ve got to comment again on a shocking decision – once again an appalling decision,” said Warburton.

“Tarky’s hands are up and the player goes straight to ground. There was no contact whatsoever.

“I hate to come across as sour grapes and it’s not that at all. The fact is we deserved at least a point out of that game.”

Warburton was full of praise for his players, who battled back after Ighalo’s opener and equalised through Jonathan Douglas only for Matej Vydra to win it for Watford with a superb strike.

“They were terrific. They were angry at half-time and from the first whistle of the second half they were absolutely outstanding,” Warburton declared.
