Brentford have completed the signing of Pontus Jansson from Leeds United.
Centre-back Jansson, 28, has signed a three-year contract with the Bees after moving for an undisclosed fee.
He was a popular figure at Leeds, who signed him from Torino in 2017 after he spent a season on loan at Elland Road from the Italian club.
The Swede had three years remaining on his contract and played a key role in helping Leeds reach the Championship play-off final last season.
His signing is therefore a coup for Brentford, who have rejected an offer from Celtic for Romaine Sawyers and as of Monday evening had still not received an approach for Neal Maupay, who has been linked with Sheffield United.
“We are very pleased with Pontus’ arrival,” Brentford head coach Thomas Frank told the club website.
“The defence is an area that we have been looking to strengthen and we feel that Pontus will bring a lot to the group.
“Pontus will add to the quality and competition for places that we need to adapt to different situations over the course of the season.
“Pontus is a top defender who brings immense professionalism, a great attitude, experience, defensive robustness, leadership qualities, and threat from set pieces to our side.
“Everyone knows about the Brentford model but to develop the young players we have here, we also need experience and quality in the squad to get the perfect balance.
“To have someone with his CV turn down other offers to join us shows where we stand as a club now.”
