Brentford 3 Bury 0
Two superb goals from Sam Saunders earned Brentford a fifth consecutive win as their late play-off push marches on.
The midfielder’s curling free-kick from the edge of the area lit up a dull first half and his long-range strike doubled the lead in the second period.
Right-back Shaleum Logan grabbed the third in a comprehensive victory, sealing Brentford’s longest winning run for 11 years.
One man lauded for his influence in their upturn in form is loan signing Clinton Morrison, who was instrumental again despite not scoring.
Morrison volleyed narrowly over early on before defender Harlee Dean did the same.
So it was left to Saunders to swing in a sublime set-piece from the edge of the box a minute before the interval.
Saunders then became involved in a confrontation with Steven Schumacher after the Bury man’s rash challenge on Jonathan Douglas.
The impact of that tackle eventually forced Douglas to go off – but not before Saunders controlled brilliantly before firing past keeper Jonathan Bond and high into the net just after the hour mark.
Logan was then put through for the third after a neat one-two with Morrison, and Saunders could well have had a hat-trick but his shot was deflected over.
