Czech winger Martin Fillo says he is surprised at how high the standard of football has been since he joined Brentford.
The 27-year-old signed from Viktoria Plzen this summer and bagged his first goal for his new club in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup win over Dagenham & Redbridge.
Fillo, who played under Bees manager Uwe Rosler during his time at Norwegian side Viking, said: “I’m quite surprised with the level of football – in a good way. I didn’t expect it to be so big here.
“It was one of the hardest pre-seasons I have had and I’m just glad I survived it.
“It was important that I didn’t get injured too because I have really had to prove myself. It’s been a tough start to the season already.”
Fillo added: “I’m relieved to get my first goal – it will give me confidence. I really needed it because I didn’t score in pre-season.
“It has been so far so good here at Brentford. They have a strong squad here, they play great football and it’s a really high level. They love their football here.
“If we win against Sheffield United on Saturday I think we’re going to have a good start to the season, so it will be a big game and I cant wait for it.”
