Bournemouth 1 Brentford 0
Wes Fogden’s goal just before half-time meant Brentford were beaten – and failed to score – for the third game in a row.
Fogden darted in from the right and fired an unstoppable shot past Richard Lee and into the top corner of the net.
Lee, back in goal in place of Simon Moore, had been by far the busier of the two keepers in a one-sided first half.
Harry Forrester cleared Steve Cook’s header off the line, while Wes Thomas and Donal McDermott also went close to putting Bournemouth ahead.
It was no surprise when the Cherries did take the lead, but Niall McGinn should have levelled in the second half.
The on-loan Celtic man inexplicably scuffed wide when it seemed easier to score, and it proved to be a costly miss.
Jonathan Douglas headed on to the roof of the net as Uwe Rosler’s team tried in vain to dig out an equaliser.
Again their lack of attacking options in the wake of top scorer Gary Alexander’s recent move to Crawley was underlined, particularly as on-loan striker Saido Berahino was not included.
It was Bournemouth’s first win in eight matches and saw them leapfrog the Bees, who drop to 11th in the table.
