Clayton Donaldson says he will take time to consider his options but is hopeful of agreeing a new contract at Brentford.
Donaldson’s current deal expires this summer and the Bees are keen for him to stay at Griffin Park.
“I’m happy to talk and discuss things further,” said the 30-year-old, who has scored 18 goals in 46 appearances this season.
“Obviously promotion to the Championship was my main aim and we’ve achieved that now. My aim was to play at a higher level and test myself.
“I’ve always wanted to prove myself in the Championship and I’ve got a good opportunity to do that with Brentford.
“I’m 30 now – I’m not getting any younger. This next deal has to be important and the club have respected that.
“They’ve taken their time and I’ve taken my time, and at the end of the season hopefully we can thrash out a deal.”
Donaldson joined Brentford from Crewe in 2011 and he has scored more than 50 goals in 153 appearances for the club.
