Bees will appeal against Tarkowski red card – Dijkhuizen

Marinus Dijkhuizen says Brentford plan to appeal against James Tarkowski’s red card in the 2-1 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Defender Tarkowski, back in the side after a calf injury, was sent off for fouling Atdhe Nuhiu, who opened the scoring with the resulting penalty.

“I thought it was a penalty and maybe a yellow card, but never a red card,” Dijkhuizen said.

Dijkhuizen felt his team were desperately unlucky to lose to the Owls, who won with a late goal from Lucas Joao after Alan Judge’s fine strike had hauled the hosts level.

“It can be a very cruel game,” said the Bees head coach. “It’s a beautiful game, but today is very hard. It’s very hard to accept this loss, because we did not deserve this.

“In the second half we showed very good spirit, the crowd got behind us and we scored a very good goal.

“You think everything is going your way and then you still lose. I think Sheffield Wednesday will go to the casino tonight – and we will not.”
