Brentford boss Uwe Rosler was delighted with the quality of his side’s finishing as they dismantled Crewe 5-1.
New strike pair Clayton Donaldson and Farid El Alagui both scored twice, with Harlee Dean also on target, as the Bees recorded their first league win of the season in style.
Brentford dominated the first half and went in at the break 3-0 up – and but for a fine save and a couple of near-misses, the lead could have been greater.
Rosler said: “The first 35 minutes was probably the best 35 minutes since I’ve been at the club.
“We played very offensively and we were very clinical. We pressed them high and forced Crewe to go long ball.
“We always want to play but we want to play in the right areas. We had good delivery of balls into the channels and Crewe didn’t know what we would do, because we had two ways of playing.”
The partnership between Donaldson and El Alagui looked particularly promising, but Rosler picked out captain Kevin O’Connor, who was making his first start of the season, for praise.
He said: “His positional play was excellent. He sat and allowed the other midfield players to go at them at speed and that was the key.
“We need pros like Kevin O’Connor. He’s a fantastic captain. He understands his role and understands what we want tactically.”
