Conte pleased to see Eriksen back in action
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has spoken of his delight at seeing Christian Eriksen shine for Brentford since his return to football.
Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder when his short-term deal with the Bees expires in the summer, with Conte having also managed him while at Inter Milan.
Eriksen put in another good performance against his former club on Saturday – causing plenty of problems with his set-piece deliveries from which Ivan Toney twice hit the woodwork.
And while he would not be drawn on whether Eriksen could provide the missing link for his Spurs team, Conte spoke of his pleasure at seeing the Denmark international play at a high level again.
“First of all, I was pleased to see Christian play in this way,” he said.
“To speak now about the transfer market and players that are not in my team, I think that’s a lack of respect for the team that the player is playing for and also for my players.
“For sure, working with him for two years at Inter Milan, I enjoyed this and I’m very happy to see him perform fantastic. I’m pleased to see Christian play football at this type of level.
“My opinion is, for sure, that Christian is showing great joy to play football.
“When this type of situation happens and when you risk having to finish playing football and to play with your passion, to have another opportunity, I think now he is enjoying it totally.”
