Bradley Clayton scored the first two goals as Brentford’s Under-21s beat Barnsley 4-2 on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old gave the Bees the lead after 10 minutes with a lob over Tykes keeper Aaron Murphy, and doubled the lead shortly before the break after Tom Field had hit the post.
Barnsley pulled a goal back early in the second half through trialist James Carvell but Brentford went 3-1 up around the hour mark when Nathan Fox’s cross went straight in.
Herson Alves added a fourth for the Bees a few minutes later with a curling shot after being found by Zain Westbrooke.
Charlie Harris’ free-kick late on reduced the margin of victory, but Brentford were worthy winners.
