Sergi Canos has signed a new deal with Brentford but faces a long spell out with a serious knee injury.
The club have extended Canos’ contract until the summer of 2023 with the option of an additional year.
But the Bees also confirmed that Canos, 22, faces “a significant period of recovery” after suffering his injury during the recent defeat at Nottingham Forest.
Brentford bought him from Norwich City in January 2017, having previously had him on loan from Liverpool.
“We have been discussing Sergi’s contract with him since the summer,” said Bees co-director of football Phil Giles.
“There was interest from other clubs during the transfer window, but we were keen to keep Sergi with us as we see how much he can continue to offer the team and develop as a player.
“I’m glad we have finally reached an agreement to extend the contract.”
