Brentford were made to pay for a flat display against struggling Burton.
Florian Jozefzoon put them ahead with a sweetly-struck free-kick on 54 minutes.
The Bees had struggled to create chances but Sergi Canos came off the bench to cause problems and won the set-piece from which Jozefzoon scored.
It was not enough for Dean Smith’s side, however, as Ben Turner headed in an equaliser with 10 minutes remaining.
Canos was part of a double substitution on 50 minutes after the Bees failed to create any real chances in the first half, with Josh McEachran also added for the usually influential Ryan Woods and Nico Yennaris.
And Canos almost made it 2-0 after Jozefzoon’s strike when his curling effort was deflected wide of the far post.
Brentford 4-3-3: Bentley; Clarke, Egan, Barbet; Woods (McEachran 50), Yennaris (Canos 50), Sawyers; Jozefzoon, Watkins, Maupay (Vibe 71).
Subs not used: Daniels, Mokotjo, Chatzitheodoridis, Mepham
