Brentford’s winning run ended by leaders Hull

Brentford 0 Hull City 2

Andrew Robertson and Sam Clucas struck in the second half to end Brentford’s four-game winning run.

Left-back Robertson was put through by Clucas and blasted past keeper David Button inside the near post to open the scoring on 67 minutes.

Brentford hit the post three minutes later through substitute Konstantin Kerschbaumer, whose shot with the outside of his boot bounced back off the upright.

But the Bees failed to score for the first time in a month and Clucas turned home Hull’s second late on after Button parried Mo Diame’s fierce effort.

Brentford missed the invention of Alan Judge, who has been instrumental in their upturn in form under head coach Lee Carsley but missed out with a hamstring problem.

Striker Marco Djuricin had two good chances to put Brentford ahead in a goalless first half, forcing Allan McGregor into an outstretched save in the first minute before firing at the Hull keeper’s legs from close range.

The Bees had a decent shout for a penalty before the half-hour mark when Judge’s replacement, Lasse Vibe, was brought down by a combination of Michael Dawson and Harry Maguire.

And Hull, who twice went close through Abel Hernandez before the break, wanted a penalty of their own when David Meyler’s long-range effort appeared to strike the arm of Toumani Diagouraga inside the box.

Moses Odubajo, who joined Hull from Brentford in the summer, was one of three players who forced Button into saves before Robertson finally beat him from Clucas’ superb through-ball at a tight angle.

The impressive left-winger Clucas wrapped up the points when he pounced on Button’s spill and Hull could have had more as Button saved from Tom Huddlestone and Diame late on.
