Brentford’s Tarkowski seals move to Burnley

Brentford defender James Tarkowski has completed a move to Championship rivals Burnley for an undisclosed fee.

West London Sport revealed earlier on Monday that the centre-back was undergoing medical after the Clarets had had their offer accepted by Brentford.

He has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Burnley, who are currently third in the Championship.

The 23-year-old had not been picked by Bees head coach Dean Smith since refusing to play against Burnley on 15 January.

The former Oldham centre-back last week issued statement apologising for pulling out of the match, and explained he wanted to move back up north to care for his terminally-ill mother.

Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, Norwich and West Brom all registered an interest in Tarkowski this month, and the Bees rejected several offers for the defender.

However, Sean Dyche’s side have wrapped up the protracted move having finally reached agreement with Brentford.

Tarkowski made 74 appearances for the Bees since joining the club in January 2014.

  • A totally underwhelming day of transfer activity at Brentford FC. A couple of quality signings in terms of a forward and an attacking midfielder could have provided a chance of a play off push in the second half of the season but with nobody coming in this is now very unlikely with the limited squad that we have.
