Bees’ woeful start under Frank continues

Brentford 2 Sheffield United 3

Brentford’s woes under Thomas Frank continued as they suffered a sixth defeat in seven matches since the Dane took over as boss.

Neal Maupay’s goal – his 13th of the season – put the Bees ahead after just six minutes at Griffin Park, but they were behind by the quarter-hour mark.

Maupay slotted the ball under keeper Dean Henderson after collecting Romaine Sawyers’ perfect pass.

Sheffield United levelled when former Brentford man Jack O’Connell appeared to head home from a corner, although it may have gone in off the head of Bees defender Ezri Konsa for an own goal.

After John Lundstram almost put the Blades ahead with a thumping strike which rattled the bar, former Fulham loanee Oliver Norwood put them in front with an unstoppable shot from near the edge of the penalty area.

Brentford levelled midway through the second half courtesy of an own goal by John Fleck, who inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net after Sawyers had driven low into the box.

But Leon Clarke restored United’s lead by side-footing past keeper Daniel Bentley after collecting a cross from former QPR forward Conor Washington.
