Bees top after another thumping win
Brentford 3 MK Dons 1
Brentford produced another blistering performance to move top of League One for the first time this season.
Clayton Donaldson bagged his 12th goal of the season in only the second minute before Marcello Trotta scored in his third successive match just after the break.
Sam Saunders added the third with his second in as many games before former Bees loanee Lee Hodson pulled one back late on.
Brentford have now won 11 of their last 12 league games and remain unbeaten in the division since October.
It meant a fourth straight win under new manager Mark Warburton and the level of confidence flowing through the team was clear when they took an immediate lead.
Donaldson took advantage of some slack defending and latched onto a long ball forward before finishing at the near post.
MK Dons could have equalised, however, when on-loan – and in-form – Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford hit the bar with a skillful lob.
Trotta also hit the bar for the Bees in the first half before neatly converting Donaldson’s cross just after half-time.
Saunders, who scored a sweet free-kick on his return to the starting line-up against Swindon, curled home with aplomb to put the game beyond the visitors.
Hodson poked in at the near post and the away side had a decent shout for a penalty when Tony Craig appeared to foul Bamford in the box.
