Brentford denied by late Bristol City goal

Andreas Weimann’s late header denied Brentford a second successive league victory.

Josh Dasilva’s stunning second-half curler from distance looked to have won the game for the Bees and add to Sunday’s 3-1 win at Barnsley.

It was only Dasilva’s second goal for the club and first this season, but Weimann stole the show when he found space in front of his marker and nodded in an 86th-minute equaliser.

Ollie Watkins – fresh from his hat-trick at Oakwell – saw a cheeky back-heel cleared off the line by Ashley Williams in a first half lacking clear chances.

Williams did well to contain the in-form Watkins, who could also have scored when he was picked out in the box by Rico Henry but could not get a shot away.

Bristol City should themselves have been ahead at the break when ex-Chelsea youngster Kasey Palmer forced a good save from David Raya having been put clean through on goal.

The Bees bossed the second half and could have had more were it not for their ex-keeper Daniel Bentley, who pulled off several good saves, the most impressive of which saw him tip Christian Norgaard’s goal-bound volley over the bar.

And he also denied Julian Jeanvier and Henrik Dalsgaard in stoppage time.
