Brentford to move to new stadium in 2020
Brentford have announced that they will move to their new stadium in the summer of 2020.
Next season will be the Bees’ final one at Griffin Park, which has been the club’s home since 1904, and they will complete the campaign there rather than relocate mid-season.
Building work has already begun on the 17,250-capacity ground at Lionel Road, currently known as the Brentford Community Stadium.
It is currently a busy construction site abuzz with workers and machinery. No doubt the companies carrying out the work will have found the best place for london toilets hire, as workers need adequate toilet and washing facilities to meet regulations. It may not currently resemble a stadium, but the club say 90% of the stadium’s foundation have been laid and its steel frame is being put into place.
The ground is expected to be shared with rugby union club London Irish.
Brentford said in a statement: “The Brentford Community Stadium development is an important part of the wider regeneration of the area known as Brentford East and will deliver a stadium ready for both Premier League football and Premiership rugby, together with more than 900 new homes, a new purpose-built location for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, and a public square with shops and cafes.
“Given the complexity of large-scale building works adjacent to railway lines, the need to anticipate the normal delays and problems that inevitably arise in a complicated construction project, and the operational challenges surrounding a mid-season move, our view is that an end of season move is best.
“This of course gives us the chance to give Griffin Park a proper full season’s send off as we mark the club’s 130th year during the 2019/20 season.”
