Brentford star’s tribute to late mother
Clayton Donaldson has vowed to dedicate every goal he scores to his mother following her sudden death just hours after Brentford’s recent FA Cup replay at Chelsea.
On scoring his 20th goal of the season at Crawley on Tuesday, Donaldson revealed a message on a T-shirt saying: “For you, Mum”.
Jennifer Morris, who was 50, died after heart failure on the morning of the match at Stamford Bridge, with Donaldson hearing the news shortly after the game.
The Bees striker explained: “My brother found out around 10am and I was kicking off at 12 so he didn’t want to tell anyone. She was still fairly young so it was a big shock.
“I wanted to send that message [on the T-shirt]. The last week or so has been really difficult.
“It would’ve been easy just to take a few weeks off because it was really tough but I know my mum would’ve wanted me to play.
“Every goal I score from now on is dedicated to her. She supported me all the way through from when I was a young kid, taking me to games on a Sunday and she’s been to many of my games this season.”
