Brentford midfielder Sam Saunders has signed a one-year extension to his contract.
The 31-year-old’s deal was due to expire in the summer, but he will now stay at Griffin Park until the end of next season.
The second longest-serving player in the Bees squad, behind club captain Kevin O’Connor, Saunders missed most of 2014 with knee injury.
However, he returned to action in November and has since made four substitute appearances, scoring twice late on in the 4-2 Boxing Day defeat to Ipswich.
Bees boss Mark Warburton said: “Sam offers so much for us on and off the pitch.
“He has come through a difficult period of injury and has shown his desire and resilience.”
Saunders, who was on Fulham’s books as a 16-year-old, played non-League football with Welling, Kent side Ashford Town and Carshalton Athletic, before earning his big break with Dagenham, helping them win promotion out of the Conference.
His goalscoring exploits from midfield in League Two caught the eye of Brentford, and they made their move in the summer of 2009.
Saunders has played 170 games for Brentford in all competitions, scoring 27 times.
