Brentford move is formally approved

Brentford have been given final approval to build their new stadium at Lionel Road.

The Secretary of State’s office, who had the final say on whether the Bees could proceed with a new 20,000-capacity home near Kew Bridge, confirmed planning permission on Friday morning.

Despite significant objections from residents in Kew and Chiswick, Hounslow Council approved planning in December before the Greater London Authority followed suit last month.

It means Brentford can now leave Griffin Park, their home since 1904, in what it seen as a crucial development in safeguarding the club’s future.

Chairman Cliff Crown said: “Our vision of an exciting new hub at this brownfield site has taken another major step forward.

“We are delighted to have received the support from the minister and his department and are looking forward to moving the project forward.

“We firmly believe this is a once-in-a-generation chance to create a vibrant new stadium that will add to the buzz that is going on around Brentford.”
