Brentford have ‘massive belief’ ahead of second leg – Frank

Thomas Frank insists Brentford are confident they will overturn a first-leg deficit and reach the Championship play-off final.

They lost 1-0 at Bournemouth, where Arnaut Danjuma’s goal means last season’s beaten finalists will have to come from behind if they are to return to Wembley.

But Bees boss Frank declared: “There’s still massive belief in the dressing room we can turn it around.

“This is just like we’re going out in the second half and we’re 1-0 down, so there’s plenty of time still to turn this around. We’ll be ready to come flying out, 100%.”

Frank responded to the Cherries’ goal by making a triple substitution, sending on Bryan Mbeumo, Emiliano Marcondes and the fit-again Rico Henry.

And an unchallenged Mbeumo failed to take a golden chance to equalise when he contrived to shoot wide when sliding in to meet Christian Norgaard’s low ball across the box.

“It was a massive chance for Bryan,” Frank said.

“I thought we were the better side in the second half and we had our chances. I felt a draw would have been the right result.”
