Brentford end Owls’ 100% home record
Sheffield Wednesday 0 Brentford 0
Brentford produced a spirited to display to become the first team this season to leave Hillsborough with a point.
Sheffield Wednesday had won all eight of their home matches, yet despite their defensive injury problems it was the Bees who brought that 100% record to an end.
Goalkeeper Richard Lee produced a fine save to deny the Yorkshire side, superbly keeping out James O’Connor’s bicycle kick.
But it was Brentford who looked more likely to break the deadlock, with on-loan defender Miguel Llera heading Sam Saunders’ free-kick against the bar.
Uwe Rosler’s men continued to threaten in the second half and Gary Alexander narrowly failed to connect with Niall McGinn’s cross.
Without first-choice centre-backs Karleigh Osborne and Leon Legge, who are both injured, Rosler’s defensive options have been limited.
He will therefore be delighted with the way his back four handled a team that have been in scintillating form at home.
They had to survive the odd scare, not least when they somehow managed to scramble Rob Jones’ header to safety.
A point was the least Brentford deserved for an excellent performance.
They showed no fear despite Wednesday’s home record – and with some justification, given that this result stretched their unbeaten away run to seven league games.
