Brentford duo win League One awards
Brentford boss Mark Warburton and winger Sam Saunders have been named the League One Manager and Player of the Month for December.
Warburton only took charge of the first team on 10 December, after Uwe Rosler left to join Wigan, but has won all of his first five league matches and guided the Bees to the top of League One.
In December, Brentford won at Preston and also beat Oldham, Swindon and MK Dons at Griffin Park.
Such is their imperious form at present, it is the second month in a row that Brentford have been given the award, after Rosler was named Manager of the Month for November.
Warbuton was selected ahead of Sheffield United’s Nigel Clough, Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill and MK Dons manager Karl Robinson.
Fulham technical director Alan Curbishley is among the five-man panel which decides the Manager of the Month awards.
Saunders, 30, has been rewarded with the Player of the Month honour after scoring in three of Brentford’s four wins during December.
