Brentford manager Uwe Rosler accused his players of throwing the towel in during their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Huddersfield.
Rosler insisted his team’s problems at set-pieces was the only significant difference between the two sides before Lee Novak netted the Terriers’ second goal and the Bees appeared to lose heart.
“The only difference between the teams in the first half was that we couldn’t deal with corners and free-kicks,” said Rosler. “We lost headers in the box at corners – that was it.
“In the second half we switched to two strikers and I was pleased with the response. Then their second goal came out of nothing.
“We were then vulnerable because we were pushing up and – like in the game against Preston – we became more exposed when left one-versus-one.
“The only thing I will criticise my players for is the reaction to the second goal, which I didn’t like at all.
“The belief went totally out of them. In front of our supporters in our own stadium we have to keep fighting until the end.”
Brentford offered little attacking threat – especially before a double substitution at half-time which saw the introduction of winger Myles Weston and fit-again midfielder Toumani Diagouraga.
But Rosler defended his gameplan for coping with a physically strong Huddersfield side.
The German said: “We set up tactics like it was an away game because of the class Huddersfield have.
“I didn’t want to concede the first goal, because when you do that against a team like Huddersfield it’s then very hard.
“We’re in the top 10 after 11 games, so there’s nothing to be over-critical about. But what happened after the second goal is not what I want to see.”
