Brentford have signed striker Philipp Hofmann from Kaiserslautern for an undisclosed fee.
Hofmann, a Germany Under-21 international who scored twice against England in a friendly in March, has signed a three-year contract with the Bees.
He came through the youth system at Schalke and had loan spells at Paderborn and Ingolstadt before moving to Kaiserslautern last summer, scoring eight goals in 33 games in the German second tier.
Brentford head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen said: “Philipp is a target man, physically strong, and a good header of the ball. His style of play is similar to mine when I played.
“He is a different type of striker to Andre Gray, so it gives us more tactical options. Philipp is only 22 so can still improve his game.”
He is expected to play some part in Brentford’s friendly with Stoke City on Saturday.
