Brentford manager Uwe Rosler admitted making tactical errors in his side’s defeat at Stevenage.
The Bees went down 1-0 and missed the chance to move to within a point of League One leaders Doncaster.
And Rosler said: “The formation we had wasn’t working as good as I hoped.
“We had three guys in central midfield and I felt we would get control out of that, especially with Jake Reeves, who is a good passer, to turn them. But we weren’t competing.
“We only had three or four players capable of competing with their physical strength and power and determination and desire.
“So in the second half we changed it and we looked much better. We had four or five good chances – shots in and around the box. They had one shot in the second half and scored.
“I think the goal sums it up. We gained possession deep in our own half, we could not clear it, it is headed back into our box, they put us under pressure and they out-muscled one of our centre-halves.
“They wanted it a bit more than us but it’s difficult to understand because we have a lot to fight for.
“But I take my fair share of blame for the formation. It didn’t work as well as I’d hoped.”
