Frank sure appeal against Henry red card will succeed

Brentford plan to appeal against Rico Henry’s sending-off at Swansea – and Thomas Frank says he is “100% convinced” the left-back will be available for the second leg.

Frank’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat in the Championship play-off semi-final first leg at the Liberty Stadium, where left-back Henry was red-carded midway through the second half for a challenge on Connor Roberts.

The decision seemed harsh, with Henry appearing to win the ball, and Bees boss Frank therefore predicted that the club’s appeal will succeed.

“It was absolutely not a red card,” said Frank, whose team have now lost three consecutive matches.

“We’re going to appeal this and I’m absolutely, 100% sure I will have a decision where Rico can play on Wednesday. Or else someone is not doing their job well.”

The visitors, whose defeat in the final two matches of the regular season cost them automatic promotion, did create chances.

Ollie Watkins had a header saved and sent two other headers wide, Said Benrahma blasted over and Mathias Jensen dragged a shot wide of the target.

Frank declared: “I was very proud of them – the personalty and the approach they took to this game.

“And I think we were the best team until the red card.”
